Lincoln News back in business
The Lincoln News literally rose from the ashes on Nov. 12 and published an edition eight days after fire destroyed its offices and equipment.
Copies of the 6,300-circulation weekly that are normally mailed on Wednesday and delivered by letter carriers on Thursday were a day late, but no one was complaining.
Reporter-photographer Chris DeBeck told the Bangor Daily News that the staff was delighted that they were able to continue publication after the blaze. “It’s nice to see the finished product. It seemed like at times that we had to move heaven and earth, but we persevered,” said DeBeck.
The Lincoln News’ temporary offices are in the former Lincoln Historical Society offices at 70 West Broadway.
The cause of the fire may never been determined, said Sgt. Tim York of the Maine Fire Marshall’s office, because of the extent of the damage. The blaze spread quickly despite efforts by firefighters from four communities to stop it.
Editor and Publisher Kevin Tenggren thanked firefighters for their efforts and readers for their sympathy and concerns in the Nov. 12 issue.
The News building will be rebuilt, he said, and the newspaper likely will continue to be delivered to subscribers on Friday, at least on a temporary basis.
